What is unfolding now is the result of decades of the Islamic Republic’s destabilising and repressive policies. When a regime builds its power on exporting conflict, arming militias and threatening its neighbours, it is naïve to believe the consequences will never return. When that same regime massacres its own people for demanding what is rightfully theirs – freedom, dignity and a functioning economy – the free world cannot pretend not to see. I have said it before and I will repeat it again: the Iranian regime will not fall because of social media statements. But neither will it fall through reckless escalation. Real change requires a coherent strategy in which political pressure, economic tools and carefully military calibrated measures work in concert. We are witnessing a dangerous development that risks harming millions of innocent people. How this moment will be judged by history depends on whether there was clarity, responsibility and strategy behind the decisions taken. My thoughts are with the courageous Iranian people – those who for 47 years have paid the price for a regime they never chose. History shows that power built on fear is always fragile. The question is not whether change will come – but how it will be shaped, and by whom.

تروریسم با «دشمن» تعریف نمی‌شود، با روش تعریف می‌شود. سپاه پاسداران به‌خاطر مبارزه با داعش تروریست نامیده نشده؛ بلکه به‌خاطر کشتار سیستماتیک غیرنظامیان، سرکوب داخلی و صدور ترور فرامرزی. جنگیدن گاه‌به‌گاه با داعش، مسئولیت جنایت‌های مستند را از بین نمی‌برد. این یک موضع سیاسی نیست؛ یک تشخیص حقوقی مبتنی بر اسناد است. روز حساب نزدیک است، و تو بابت نقش خود در قتل‌عام ده‌ها هزار انسان بی‌گناه پاسخگو خواهی بود.

Thank you for the many thoughtful messages. I have always believed that politics is a collective effort. Change happens when people stand and support one another, contribute, and work together — and many have done exactly that. That it took the mass killing of tens of thousands of innocent people before Europe took this step is a profound tragedy that weighs heavily.

امروز، بار دیگر، پارلمان اروپا قطعنامه‌ای را تصویب کرد که از کشورهای عضو اتحادیه اروپا می‌خواهد سپاه پاسداران انقلاب اسلامی را در فهرست سازمان‌های تروریستی اتحادیه اروپا قرار دهند. این تصمیم قابل استقبال است، اما واقعیت را تغییر نمی‌دهد. بیش از سه سال است که این خواسته، با وجود حمایت گسترده در پارلمان اروپا، توسط برخی دولت‌ها از جمله فرانسه، ایتالیا، اسپانیا، مجارستان، مالت و قبرس مسدود شده است. با این حال، مسیر درست روشن است: اتحادیه اروپا باید به یک موضع واحد برسد. پرسش این است که چرا این موضوع اهمیت دارد. پاسخ روشن است. قرار دادن سپاه در فهرست گروه‌های تروریستی، همراه با اقدامات هم‌زمان دیگر، رژیم را تضعیف می‌کند و شکاف را در درون نیروهای سرکوبگر آن عمیق‌تر می‌سازد. این اقدامی ضروری برای نزدیک‌تر شدن به آزادی مردم ایران است.

Today, once again, the European Parliament adopted a resolution calling on EU member states to designate the IRGC as a terrorist organization under the EU’s terrorism sanctions regime. While this decision is welcome, it does not change the reality on the ground. For more than three years, repeated attempts to move forward have been blocked by a number of EU member states, including France, Italy, Spain, Hungary, Malta and Cyprus. Despite this, we must continue working toward a unified European position. I am often asked why this designation matters. My answer is simple: a terrorist listing, combined with parallel measures, weakens the regime and creates internal pressure within its security apparatus. This is a necessary step if we are to help bring freedom to the people of Iran. #IRGCterrorists

This post is addressed to my European colleagues — parliamentarians, ministers, and others with political influence. This video shows the true face of the Islamic Republic. The security forces you see here are firing live ammunition. These are not rubber bullets, and they are not acting to de-escalate. They shoot at the forehead or the heart — in other words, with the intent to kill. Today, we have received reports that more than 12,000 people have been murdered in recent days by the regime’s forces. To meet representatives of the Islamic Republic under these circumstances is an insult to the victims.
